Help Fight Animal Abuse and Cruelty

In order to help us continue to defend and protect the pets in need, we need your support. Our Humane Investigations Department is a truly invaluable service that we provide the community and we cannot continue to do so without your support. Lake Humane Society does not receive government, state or county funding for any of the programs or services we provide to the community. We need your continued support in order to remain the voice for these animals in need.

Lake Humane Society is proud to provide the Lake County community with a Humane Investigations Department. Our Humane Agent is responsible for ensuring that all animals in Lake County receive proper care and kindness. Allegations of abuse and neglect are investigated weekly during her part-time shift. LHS is committed to being a voice and protector of the animals in need.

Lake Humane Society would like to provide our Humane Agent with new equipment and supplies so that she can do her job effectively and safely when animals are frightened and dangerous. This is where you come in.

LHS is a private, non-profit organization that runs solely on donations. We do not receive government or state funding, nor are we funded or operated by any national humane organizations. All of our programs and services, including Humane Investigations, are made possible through your generous donations.

We are raising funds to purchase safety equipment, dangerous animal handling supplies and other equipment needed to care for animals taken in through Investigations for our agent and staff, who deal with frighten, injured and aggressive animals daily. Your donations will help make this possible!

Please donate today and watch your contribution be immediately put to use within our community. We can't do this without you.

Sincerely,
Lee Nesler, Executive Director

Caroline
Meet Caroline! This gorgeous lady is quiet and a bit shy but her world was turned upside down when her previous owner passed away in April. As you can imagine, it may take her a little time to adjust. This sweet kitty is hoping to find her new furever home where she will get the one-on-one love and attention she truly misses. Caroline would do best in a home with children over the age of 10 as well as with other feline siblings (pending a visit). So if you are that special someone with lots of love and patience, Caroline is looking for someone who can turn her world right-side up again!

Shannon
This adorable face belongs to 11-year-old Shannon. Shannon is a Yorkshire Terrier mix who was surrendered to us because the health of his owner kept him from giving him all the proper care and attention he needs. This young hearted senior still has lots of energy, love and affection left in him. So stop on by LHS and say hello to Shannon. You just might be the furever retirement home he has been looking for!

Skid
We'd like to introduce you all to Skid! Skid was recently surrendered to us. He is now under our care and as much as we have enjoyed his company, we would love for him to find a new home with an experienced pig owner. If you'd like more information, please contact us at (440) 951-6122 or visit us!

Victoria
This pretty lady is Victoria, an American Pitbull/Lab mix. This energetic girl loves to play and really appreciates the long walks our staff and volunteers take her on. Victoria was brought to us as a stray only a couple weeks ago. She has quickly adjusted and is more than ready to find that perfect furever home where she can continue to grow, play and explore her world. Is she the perfect pet for you? Stop by LHS and pay her a visit!

Featured Adoptables

Cody
Meet Cody! Cody is a 6 year old Chinese SharPei/Lab mix. Unfortunately, Cody's previous owners were moving and could not bring him along. This gentle dog is always up for fun and going for long walks. He is also very smart. He has mastered the command of “sit” and would be able to pick up other commands with a little work. Cody has lots of energy and loves to play and because he is a strong boy, h...e would do best with children over the age of 10. After being in our care for almost two months, there is nothing Cody wants more than to find a furever home with a wonderful family and a fenced in back yard. Can you give him the furever home he deserves?

Blackie
Blackie has returned! This 2-year-old was brought to us as a stray back in March. He was adopted about 2 months later only to be brought in as stray again a couple weeks ago. Blackie just hasn't been able to settle in and we want nothing more than for him to find a real forever home with children over the age of 10. He can be a little shy at first but you will quickly see how affectionate this sweet kitty is. He enjoys the company of everyone and it doesn't really take much to make him happy. So if you think you can give Blackie the special home he just can't seem to find, stop in and pay him a visit!

Jasmine
Another great pet looking for a new home is 7-year-old Jasmine. This laid-back, curious kitty loves to explore her surroundings. She came to shelter because her previous owner could no longer take care of her. This affectionate lap warmer is now looking for a furever home with children over the age of 10 as well as with other feline siblings. Come see her for yourself!

Taz
Meet Taz! This handsome kitty has bunny-soft fur and he just loves it when you pet him. This kitty is always purring and pretty happy just being in your company. Taz came to the shelter because his previous owner could no longer take care of him. He is now hoping to find a furever home with children over the age of five as well as with other male feline siblings. So if you are looking to add a calm, very affectionate, very handsome guy to your life (and definitely your lap), just ask for Taz!

Do you think these featured pets are great but would love to see more? Well, there is plenty more where they came from!

Chevy
There's a new handsome man in town! Chevy is an 8-month-old Labrador Retriever mix who was brought to us in late June as a stray. This energetic boy is always ready to play and his more than happy to give you a face full of kisses. Because Chevy is just a pup, he could still use a little more training but he is eager and ready to learn. Come into the shelter and pay Chevy a visit! He might just be the next great addition to your family.

Madeline
Say hello to Madeline! This gorgeous calico kitty is laid back, friendly and affectionate. She is pretty content with just cuddling in your lap and soaking up any attention you're willing to give her. Madeline was brought to us in May as a stray and has since been waiting patiently for that perfect someone to come swoop her up. Are you her perfect someone? Stop in and see if you can give Madeline the forever home she has been hoping for!

Newma
This little beauty is Newma! This sweet 1-year-old came to us in early June as a stray. She has quickly become quite comfortable and her friendly and affectionate personality has really started to shine through. It is obvious that she would make the perfect companion to anyone willing to open up their heart and home to this well-deserving kitty. Can you give Newma a new forever home?

Silus
This adorable bunny is 2-year-old Silus. He has an extremely soft, steely-gray coat. He can be a little timid, but once he becomes familiar with his surroundings, he is very friendly and loves to explore. Silus came to the shelter in June with his brother, Midnight, because their previous owner could no longer care for them. Silus and Midnight love each other very much and can't imagine life without each other, so we ask that they be adopted together. If you are looking for two sweet, adorable bunnies, just ask for Silus and Midnight.

She is now looking for a forever home where she will get the attention she deserves. Stop in the shelter and see if Leah could be your new small and furry friend!

Snowflake
This is Snowflake! Snowflake is a Bichon Frise mix who came to Lake Humane Society in June because her owners could no longer care for her. She is a very independent, friendly and playful girl, but is also very calm, gentle, and loving. Snowflake is housebroken, but not crate trained and would do well with other dogs, cats, small animals and children of all ages. Come in to Lake Humane Society today and see if you can give Snowflake a new fur-ever home!

Butterscotch
Say hello to Butterscotch! Butterscotch is a 4-year-old Sheltie/American Eskimo mix who was brought to us in June because her owners were not able to train her. She is not housebroken or crate trained but she is great with children of all ages, and other dogs and cats. Butterscotch is very friendly and playful, but can be a bit needy at times. She is looking for a special someone who can give her the time and attention she needs. Can you give this beautiful girl a new home?

Olive
This pretty lady is Olive, an affectionate cuddle buddy to say the least. Olive came to LHS as a stray in November of 2014. This patient kitty is still waiting to find her forever home. As much as we love her, there is nothing that would make us happier than finding her a new, forever family. She would do best in a home that has children over the age of five. So if you are looking for that perfect lap cat, stop in to the shelter and ask for Olive!

Bella
This is Bella, a beautiful black lab mix who came to the shelter in mid-June because her owner did not have enough time to care for her. She is four and a half years old which means, with plenty of life left in her, she has lots of energy and loves to play! Bella can be shy and needy at times but she is such a loving and affectionate lady. Even though she is happy and healthy here at LHS, she would love to find a furever home that she can call her own. And, because she needs lots of exercise, she would love to have a fenced in backyard where she can play and run around with her new family. She would also do great with children over the age of 5. Come into the Lake Humane Society and see if she could be the next great addition to your home!

Grasshopper
Say hello to 2-year-old Grasshopper! Grasshopper is one laid back kitty. She truly enjoys being petted, and her purring machine runs non-stop to show her appreciation.  When she is not zonked out in your lap, she also can be quite playful and talkative. She is always up for a good play session or a nice conversion. Grasshopper came to the shelter because her previous owner could no longer take care of her. She is now looking for a new furever home. And, because she has such an easygoing personality, she would do just fine with children of all ages, as well as with other feline siblings. She is used to being on mouse duty, however, so it would be best to keep her away from small animals. So if you are looking to add a very affectionate, sweet kitty to your life (and lap), just ask for Grasshopper!

Puss
Today's featured senior is sweet, affectionate Puss! Her favorite things are being petted and lots of snuggling. It doesn't matter the time or the day, this 9-year-old will gladly soak up any attention you are willing to give her. Puss came to the shelter because her previous owner could no longer take care of her. She is now hoping to find a new family that will give her the one-on-one love and attention she misses.  She would do best in a home with children over the age of 10 (pending a visit). Can you give her the love and care she deserves? Stop in and see her at LHS!

Bobby
This is 2-year-old Bobby. He may be a little rough looking on the outside (even has a stubby tail) but don't let that fool ya! This big ham is actually one of the most affectionate cuddle-bugs you will ever meet. Even though the guys among our staff and volunteers enjoy his company, he has really won over the  hearts of the ladies! Bobby absolutely adores being petted and is more than okay with a couple hugs here and there. After surviving life out in the big world, as a stray, he is more than ready to find a forever home (with children over the age of 10) where he will feel safe and loved. So if you are looking for a super sweet, super affectionate cuddle buddy, Bobby's your guy!
